Salam people! Did you know there are no Punjabi Muslims in India? Or barely any? I mean Punjabi as in ethnically and culturally Punjabi. Not Muslims who are living in Indian Punjab. And that's because Partition. 1947. Punjabi Muslims migrated/left for Pakistan and Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India. Ive always wondered what it would've been like if Punjabi Muslims coexisted with Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs in India. For every other state you have peoples of various religions-so you have Kerala Hindus and Kerala Muslims, Gujarati Hindus and Gujarati Muslims and so on. I was born in a Hindu Punjabi family and identify as Punjabi. Destiny had it that I married a Muslim and adopted my husband's religion. So here I am. Punjabi. Indian. Muslim. This blog here is my attempt to navigate my identity and to share what its like when you take a path less travelled; when you dance to a different tune.
